As a Parent, you have the right to:

  • Legal support and representation.

  • A support system and advocates.

  • Be treated with Respect and Dignity.

  • To be heard and to have your perspective included in decisions regarding your child's care and any concerns you may have.

  • Privacy, your information should be kept confidential.

  • Understand the processes impacting your family.  Language should be clear and accessible to everyone, no matter what language is spoken, or disabilities may impact hearing or comprehension.

  • Be provided with timely communication and responses.

Your Child has rights as well- it is expected that social workers will-

​

  • The best place for children is usually with their families.

  • Prioritize your child's safety above all else

  • Make every effort to keep your child in your care.

  • To keep Indigenous children in their communities, 

  • Ensure that Indigenous children have access to culture, tradition and community.

  • Listen to your child and their wishes.

  • Make sure that decisions are made as fast as possible. 

  • Prioritize not disrupting your family
